[526] He3 gas transfer system

Prior information notice

According to this notice the expected publication date of the contract documents (note that this could change) is 2025-03-05

ESS (European Spallation Source) intends to procure a Gas Transfer System designed to fill, mix, empty, and recover Helium-3 gas mixture from detector modules with optimal efficiency and minimal losses. The system will play a critical role in preparing detectors for high-precision neutron detection in scientific research. The scope includes supply, testing, validation, training, and technical support for the system as well as study, design, manufacturing, FAT, CE compliance, and shipping. Key Requirements: • Performance: The system must handle vacuum levels of 10⁻⁷ bar and pressures up to 15 bar with high leak-tightness using orbital-welded joints and VCR-type connections. • Gas Handling: Efficiently fill detectors with a He-3, Argon, and CO₂ mixture, and recover it with minimal contamination or loss. • Design requirements: Ultra-high-purity 316L Stainless Steel tubing (UHP), semi-automated valve systems, and digital sensors. • Compliance: Fully compliant with CE certification standards and CE marked. • Testing & Training: Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) at the manufacturer’s premises (incl. Helium leak detection test), pre-shipment inspections, comprehensive training for ESS personnel, along with detailed operational and maintenance manuals in English. • Safety and practicality: Self-standing, mounted on wheels for easy relocation, and as it will be used inside, minimize fumes and exhausts to the maximum. Timeline: • Delivery and Commissioning: No later than Q3 2025
