Prior information notice
ESS is looking for a main loop filter in the 1010 helium cooling system for which a tender is needed.
Requirement on dimensions, pressure losses, radiation shielding and quality documentation is described in the specification and appendices which will be shared in whole with the full publication of the tender.
It is expected that finished filter unit needs to be custom made with the filter elements used being standard elements from a supplier.
The filter is to be used to filter helium thats cooling the target wheel.
During operation some debris will release from the target wheel and be carried by the helium gas. As the debris can be highly radioactive catching them is important to keep the overall dose-rate down as well gathering the debris in a single place. Once installed the filter unit is only used until it needs to be changed, after that the whole filter unit is handled as waste. When either the radiation level or the pressure loss becomes to high the filter is replaced. The whole filter package, both the pressure vessel and the container is removed and stored. The filter will be stored in a standardized concrete container for radioactive waste which requires that the outer dimensions of the filter don’t exceed the given dimensions.
